SPRINGFIELD - Ernest “Ernie” Harold Peter Parrow, 93, of Springfield, died on Friday, August 21, 2020 at home in the arms of his loving daughters. Ernest was born in Haydenville, MA on September 2, 1926. Ernest proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Chicago (CA-136) in World War II. His most momentous day was the signing of the peace treaty in Tokyo Bay on V-J Day, his 19th birthday, September 2, 1945. Ernest worked at O. R. Cote in Springfield for more than 25 years, starting as a ditch digger and ending his career as head foreman. Ernest held many professional trade licenses and was quite the handyman. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed playing pitch. He married Irene Y. (Poudrier) Parrow, who predeceased Ernest in 1992. Ernest and Irene had four daughters, Linda (Parrow) Maiuri and her husband Ronald of Chicopee; Jacqueline Parrow of Suffield, CT; Pamela (Parrow) Sheehan and her husband Ronald of Feeding Hills, and Ernestine, who predeceased him in 1975. He also leaves grandchildren, Kenneth Maiuri, Glenn Maiuri, and Gayle (Maiuri) Haas and husband Michael; Melanie Hughes Silcox and husband Peter and their dog Mojo whom Ernie loved dearly; Kreag, Kyle, Kiley and Kaden Sheehan; and great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Zoe and Isabella Haas. Ernest was one of eight siblings (Irma, Marg, Bernadette, Hilda, Eddie and Juanita) with his surviving sibling Joyce Boucher and her husband Walter. Thank you to his nurse Diane and his caregivers, Anne Marie, and Monica, who so lovingly cared for him. Special thanks to Margaret who made Ernie feel special during his final days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. His Burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and Church capacity is limited due to state regulations).
