James “Larry” Hobbs, 78, of Tifton passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Cypress Pond Assisted Living in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mr. Hobbs will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 22, 2020, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Brandon Griffin, Trevor Dailey, Anthony Summer, Nicholas Summer, Tanner Marlin, Brad Griffin, Travis Dailey, Dwayne Hobbs and Mark Francis will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Hobbs’ cherished, life-long family friends.
Born November 8, 1941 in Tift County, Mr. Hobbs was the son of the late Alton Hobbs and Annie Mae Spicer Hobbs. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vasti “Ty” Parrish Hobbs; four sisters, Josephine Hobbs Bailey, Ruby Hobbs, Doris Cox Brewer and Lillie Mae Hobbs Sauls; and one brother, A. J. Hobbs. Before retiring, he was co-owner of Tifton General Tire and he was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
Mr. Hobbs is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Darlene and Brad Griffin of Sycamore, Angie and Heather Summer of Montezuma and Gay and Travis Dailey of Statesboro; one sister, Norma Francis of Baldwin, Florida; seven grandchildren, Brandon Griffin, Caroline Griffin Marlin and husband Tanner, Anthony Summer, Nicholas Summer, Sarah Summer, Trevor Dailey and Erin Dailey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hobbs’ family would like to thank the employees of Cypress Pond Assisted Living and the employees of Southern Care Hospice for their tender care of Mr. Hobbs and thanks to his special sitter, Randi Hess and her husband Dave.
