Obituary

FEEDING HILLS - James A. "Jimmy" Grindle, 58, of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, August 19, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on August 22, 1961, a beloved son of Gloria A. (Belden) Grindle-Roy of Longmeadow and the late Irving G. Grindle who was Called Home on May 17, 1985. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from the former Springfield Technical High School in 1979 where he was a member of the varsity baseball team. In addition, he played with the American Legion Post 420 baseball team and was proud to have played in the 1978 National Championship in Yakima, Washington. He was employed by the City of Springfield Department of Public Works for many years. He had lived in Springfield for many years before moving to Feeding Hills in 2004. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. During his leisure time, he enjoyed watching sports and cheering on his Boston Red Sox and Dallas Cowboys. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. In addition to his mother, he leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Diane (McCarthy) Grindle. They were married on November 17, 1989 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 30 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving daughters, Kelly A. Grindle of Feeding Hills and Amy M. Grindle and her partner, Matt Thomas, of Plainville, CT; his three dear brothers, Bob Grindle and his wife, Cherie, of Rochester, NH, Don Grindle and his wife, Cyndy, of Windsor Locks, CT and Ken Grindle and his wife, Jill, of Suffield, CT; his two dear sisters, Karen Cliche and her husband, Ray, of Belchertown and Joyce Powers and her husband, Mark, of Chicopee; his dear mother-in-law, Gloria (Palazzesi) McCarthy of Springfield; his two dear brothers-in-law, Ray McCarthy of Chicopee and Rob McCarthy and his wife, Mary-Beth, of West Springfield; his two dear sisters-in-law, Deb Aberdale and her husband, Tom, of Chicopee and Judy Moriarty and her husband, Jim, of Feeding Hills; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended members of the Grindle and McCarthy families and friends. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Kevin Grindle who was Called Home on May 18, 2010; and his dear father-in-law, Raymond McCarthy who was Called Home on February 5, 2017. He will also be deeply missed by his loving dog, Snickers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104, (please meet directly at the Church). His Burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129, (please note that masks are required, social distancing must be observed and church capacity is limited due to state guidelines). His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
