Obituary

LANESBOROUGH – George F. Whitehead, 76, of Lanesborough, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, August 16, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 9, 1943, a beloved son of the late Edward J. and Dorothy (Reigel) Whitehead. He was raised and educated in Cincinnati and had moved to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in the 1960’s before moving to the Berkshires in 2012. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Airman Second Class. He was employed for 35 years as a mail handler at the U.S. Postal Service Bulk Mail Center in Springfield. He was a member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus in Chicopee. During his leisure time, he enjoyed watching television, playing on his computer, cheering on his Cincinnati Bengals and spending time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jeanne L. (Houle) Whitehead who was Called Home on September 3, 1999; and his beloved fiancée, Barbara G. Lacasse who was Called Home on August 25, 2012. He leave his two loving daughters, Mary E. Lacasse and her husband, Keith Janwich, of Lanesborough and April M. DiRoberto and her husband, Michael, of Webster; his six cherished grandchildren, Tyler E. Lacasse, Samantha L. Lacasse, Richard L. Carrington, Tonya M. Frenier and her wife, Kristine Frenier, Sabrina M. DiRoberto and Dylan M. DiRoberto; his dear sister, Patricia A. Schoedinger of Castle Rock, Colorado; his dear brother, Edward J. Whitehead, Jr. and his wife, Sally, of Casper, Wyoming; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved canine companions, his dogs Bosco, D’Artagnan and Stella. In addition to his wife and fiancée, he was predeceased by his two dear sisters, Katherine L. Martin and Susan C. Whitehead. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by an 11 a.m. Prayer Service at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), parking lot and main entrance are located at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Prayer Service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
