Maria (Baptista) Mendes, 93, of New Bedford passed away peacefully after a brief illness on August 14, 2020.
She was the wife of the late Manuel Mendes.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, she was the daughter of the late Querino Baptista and Julia DaLomba. She moved to New Bedford in 1962 and lived there most of her life.
She was formerly employed by Savoy Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Maria loved watching NCIS, listening to Cape Verdean music, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Maria I. Mendes and Adelina Teixeira, both of New Bedford; three sons, Adelino Mendes, Jezuino Mendes and Joseph H. Mendes Sr., all of New Bedford; a brother Jose Baptista, three sisters, Eugenia Dias, Adeline Baptista and Domingas Barbosa; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her daughter Deolinda Rodrigues and her brother Virgilio Gomes.
