Obituary

Stephen “Steve” Homol - August 11, 2020

It is with great sadness that the Homol family announces the passing of Stephen Homol in the early morning of August 11, 2020 after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was able to spend his final hours at home with family and died peacefully surrounded by love. He fought like a champion for nearly 10 years and lived life to the fullest even when he struggled to breath. We are so proud of him!
Born and raised in Fall River, Massachusetts, he left his hometown bound for Da Nang, Vietnam where he served in the United States Air Force as a Radar Technician servicing F-4 Fighter Jets. He was so very proud of his service. Upon his discharge he moved to Swansea, MA where he owned and operated a successful auto repair shop for over 40 years. He went to night school after working in the garage all day and earned his Associates Degree in Business. He could build or fix anything. He loved anything with a motor, especially a powerful one. His hobbies included dirt bike riding, 4 wheeling, road bikes, and boating. But his favorite motor activity of all was snowmobiling in Canada. There was one non-motorized activity he loved and that was Country-Western Dance. He had been seen a few times practicing his steps at night in his garage. Steve’s absolute favorite place to be was Pine Hollow Condo Campground in Laconia, NH. He so looked forward to going up there every weekend from April – October. He truly cherished the friends he made there and even requested to have his ashes reside there. Much appreciation goes to the Pine Hollow crew who brought so much joy to his summers.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 53 years Linda (Lile) Homol, Sons – Steve, Eric, and Greg and Daughter-in-law Melissa, Granddaughters – Bella and Ashley (Great Grand-Children Christopher, Ayva, and Aubrey), and grandson Juelz, along with Brothers – Edward, Stanley, & Wayne Homol, and Sisters – Ann Farias, Christine Gauthier, and Patricia Thibeault.
Steve was the epitome of someone who loved life. Even when he was coughing so badly that he was on the verge of passing out, he would just ride it out and continue with what he was doing or saying. He never complained and he never felt bad for himself. As long as he could do what he wanted to do, as long as he was spending time with friends or family, as long as he could make it to the Looney Bin (bar at the campground), Steve was in his glory. He always had somewhere to go, something to do, or something to fix. You did it all Dad, you can rest now.
You will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Steve’s honor to the Fisher House Foundation who provides rooms on site of VA Hospitals for family members of servicemen and women who are hospitalized. Fisherhouse.org
In honor of Steve’s wishes there will be no formal services. He will be memorialized every time his friends and family do what he loved most; be together, talk, laugh, argue, and love.
