Worcester – Estelle M. (Mathon) Bernier, 91, of Worcester died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, August 11th after a long illness.
Estelle was married to the late G. Edward Bernier who died in 2016. She is survived by two children, William Poce and Janet LaRonde both of Worcester; a brother, Phillip Mathon of Utah; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mrs. Bernier was predeceased by a son, Michael Poce; two daughters, Kathy Poce Matheson and Donna Campomizzi and a grandson, Willie LaRonde.
Estelle worked as a licensed practical nurse and retired from the former Worcester State Hospital. Before working at Worcester State Hospital, she previously worked at Saint Vincent Hospital and many local nursing homes in the Worcester area.
She was a longtime member of Saint Peter’s Church where she regularly attended the 7am mass on Sunday mornings. Estelle was a fixture in her neighborhood and would rarely miss a neighborhood crime watch meeting. When she wasn’t feeding the ducks at University Park, she could be found strolling the beaches in York, Maine. She will be sorely missed for her sense of humor. She could always be counted on for a well-timed wise crack.
Funeral services are being held privately and burial will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester is directing arrangements.
