Bridgewater- Albert P. Gedraitis, 89, of Bridgewater died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at Morton Hospital in Taunton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Helen (Sabas) Gedraitis.
Born Oct. 24, 1916, in South Boston, he was the son of the late Longinas and Ona (Vinclovaite) Gedraitis.
Raised in South Boston, he was a graduate of South Boston High School, Class of 1936, and attended Bridgewater State College.
Mr. Gedraitis served in the U.S. Coast Guard and had been a resident of Bridgewater for 51 years.
He was a lubrication engineer for Eagle Oil Co. for 25 years and retired from Brockton Sole and Plastics, where he worked in maintenance for 16 years.
Mr. Gedraitis was a member of Senior Painter for 20 years and his paintings and sculptures were exhibited in the area.
He played various instruments, including the organ, guitar and accordion.
Mr. Gedraitis enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Helen Gedraitis of East Freetown, Joseph and his wife Jane of Hanover, William and his wife Nancy of Middleboro, Robert and his wife Celeste of Effingham, N.H., and John of Bridgewater; his siblings, Millie Bernatonis and her husband Joseph, Helen Genevich and her late husband Peter, and Joseph, all of S. Boston, John and his wife Genevieve of Arlington Heights, Ill., and the late Louis Gedraitis; a sister-in-law, Jenny Gedraitis of S. Boston; also survived by 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, Thursday at 8:15 am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 9 am. Visiting hours are Wednesday 5-8 pm. Burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
