Obituary

Rev. Jimmy E. Tyson, Sr., 70, of Brooksville, Florida, formerly of Irwin County, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Community Hospital in New Port Richey, Florida.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Ocilla Church of God, Ocilla, with Rev. Charles Linton, Rev. Jake Richey, Rev. Clayton Dowd, and Rev. Leroy Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in Riverbend Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Rev. Tyson was born December 24, 1935, in Ocilla, Georgia, to Ruby Rogers Tyson and the late Isaac Ezekiel Tyson. He was a seven-year veteran of the National Guard. Rev. Tyson spent the greater part of his life in Tallahassee Florida, from 1957 until 1991 where he worked as an agent and a sales manager in the insurance business. He was a retired ordained minister in the Church of God faith having served churches in Barnesville, GA, Apalachicola, FL and Chiefland, FL. He was presently employed as a real estate agent with Paradise West Realty in Springhill, FL. Rev. Tyson was a member of the Hudson Church of God in Hudson, FL. He and his wife, Linda, were presently in ministry of praise and worship at the Forest Oaks Independent and Assisted Living Care Center in Springhill, FL.

Rev. Tyson is survived by his wife of 46 years: Linda Mathers Tyson of Brooksville, FL; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Jimmy E. “Jet” Tyson, Jr. of Hernando Beach, FL and David Glynn and Lauren Tyson of Land O’Lakes, FL; two grandchildren: Alex Tyson and Avery Tyson, both of Land O’Lakes; his mother: Ruby R. Tyson of Fitzgerald; three sisters: Marjorie Portier and Betty Bell, both of Fitzgerald, and Claire Till of Cumming; and two brothers: Ronnie Tyson of Ocilla and Rev. Frankie Tyson of Suwanee.
