Edwin A. Whitcomb, 75

Dateline: Cumberland, Rhode Island

Edwin A. Whitcomb, age 75, of Cumberland Rhode Island, formerly of Norton, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Nancy M. (Shea) Whitcomb, to whom he was wed for over twenty-five years.

Born in Brockton, MA on June 27, 1945, he was a loving son of the late Alfred E. and Alice I (Huff) Whitcomb.

Ed grew up in Norton and was a graduate of Norton High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following three years of service, he was honorably discharged from active duty with the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class.

A resident of Cumberland for over twenty-five years, Mr. Whitcomb owned and operated Oak Farm Landscaping in Norton and later Ravine Farm in Cumberland.

Ed enjoyed spending time amongst family and friends. A gun enthusiast, he was a champion skeet shooter and a member of the Massachusetts Skeet Shooting Association. Ed loved anything to do with tractors, motorcycles and trucks. Along with his wife Nancy, he enjoyed country dancing and will always be remembered for the love he had for animals.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Donald Hoyt of Providence, Kristopher Hoyt and his wife Cecelia of North Providence, Brenda Hoyt of Cumberland, Richard Hoyt of Cumberland, Todd Hoyt of Cumberland and Michelle Hoyt of Cumberland. He was the grandfather of Nicholas, Morgan, Kristopher, Jr., Juliana and Juan and was the great grandfather of Alaina.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a graveside funeral service, accompanied by military honors, on Tuesday, August 11th at 1:00 P.M. at the Norton Center Cemetery, Pine Street, in Norton.

Visiting hours are omitted and those wishing may remember Ed with a donation in his memory made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court St. #2601, Boston, MA 02108.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St., Norton.
