Obituary

Robert Clayton Sr., 81, of Manchester, died February 26, 2006 after a short illness surrounded by his family.

He was born in Manchester on August 10, 1924, the son of Thomas and Sadie (Wright) Clayton. He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester High School Central, Class of 1941. During WWII, he served in the US Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific.

Prior to retirement, he had been employed at St. Anselm College for more than 20 years. Since retirement, he had worked for Bellemore Heating Oil.

Mr. Clayton was a lifetime member of both the Alpine Club and the American Legion William H. Jutras Post #43. He loved spending summer vacations at Hampton Beach with his family and was affectionately known as “Boopa” by his grandchildren. Among his greatest passions was following local sports teams, especially the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.

He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Anne (Leafe) Clayton in 2003.

Members of his family include one daughter, Nancy Clayton of Manchester; five sons, Robert Clayton Jr. of Hooksett, Thomas Clayton, John Clayton, Michael Clayton, and William Clayton, all of Manchester; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held in the Lambert Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday March 1, 2006. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
