Wanda June Abernathy Cohen, 77, of Tifton passed away Monday, July 27, 2020, at her residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mrs. Cohen at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2020, at Tift Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest. The Rev. Terrell Roberts will officiate.
Born May 3, 1943 in Oneida, Tennessee, Mrs. Cohen was the daughter of the late Floyd Grover Abernathy and Annie Mae Vandiver Abernathy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Al Cohen; three brothers, Dicky Abernathy, Dennis Abernathy and Grover Lee Abernathy; and four sisters, Jane Malecha, Flora Lee Hill, Joann Abernathy and Brenda Abernathy. Before retiring, she was a librarian at the Tift County Public Library.
Mrs. Cohen is survived by two sons, Phillip T. Nelson of Tifton and Jimmy Nelson of Douglasville; one daughter, Sherry Nelson of Lithia Springs; step-children, Holly Cohen Blair and Michael Scott Cohen, both of Newnan; two sisters, Shelby Moore of Panama City Beach, Florida and Peggy Hallmark of Douglasville; and five grandchildren, Brandon Nelson, Mallory Nelson, Hank Nelson, Jamie Nelson and Rebecca Cohen.
