Obituary

Josephine Thomas Harper, 82, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, July 25, 2020, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, July 27, 2020, at Arbor Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Her grandson, Andrew Talmadge Harper, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, Ben Hill County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary on Monday.

Mrs. Harper was born January 6, 1938, in Nicholls, Georgia, to the late Walter & Lexie Thomas. She graduated high school in Nicholls and worked as a seamstress for over 40 years at Irwin Manufacturing. She loved to read and enjoyed watching Walker, Texas Ranger and Gunsmoke. “Big Granny” helped to raise her grandchildren and was working on the great-grands. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church and the Sanctuary Sunday school class where she loved to worship and praise her Lord. She is now shouting with Jesus.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Tony & Jackie Harper, Andy & Fran Harper, Sandy & Scottie Luther, and Michael Harper, all of Fitzgerald; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Tommy & Kay Thomas of Kingsland and Wesley & Judy Thomas of Brunswick; three sisters: Joyce & Claude Caler of Brunswick, Glenda Allnoch of Waycross, and Frances & Reggie Tatum of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Talmadge Harper; a great-granddaughter, Andrianna Hope Harper; three brothers: Donald Thomas, Larry Thomas, and Stanley Thomas; and an infant sister, Ruth Thomas.
