Obituary

Andre G. Leger, 89, of New Bedford died Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at home after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Georgette L. (Bessette) Leger, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

He was employed as a bridge repair foreman for the Massachusetts Highway Department for many years until his retirement. He was also formerly employed by Loranger Construction and in retirement he ran Skate Tech, a skate sharpening shop.

Mr. Leger was a dedicated volunteer to youth hockey programs in the New Bedford area. He was instrumental in founding the hockey exchange between New Bedford and Pierrefonds, Quebec and the learn to skate program at Hetland Arena.

A dedicated family man, he loved having family and friends over and enjoyed “puttering” around on projects with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling to Canada to visit with his family and was an avid Boston Bruins fan.

He is survived by two sons, Paul E. Leger, and his wife Estelle, of Acushnet, and Robert L. Leger, and his wife Margaret, of Quincy; two daughters, Diane J. Nunes, and her husband Thomas, of Dartmouth, and Lynne M. Lacey, and her husband William, of New Bedford; three brothers, Jacques, Edgar, and Pierre Leger; four sisters, Lise Seguin, Gisele Leger, Micheline Habel, and Denise Leger; ten grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Conrad, Nicholas and Laura Leger, Danielle Blakesley, Adam and Timothy Nunes, Tara Gallant, and Connor Lacey; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Bernard and Raymond Leger, Pierette Sauve, Constance Bradley, and Rejeanne Rozon.

Mr. Leger's family would like to extend their thanks to all of his caregivers, especially those at Southcoast VNA, for the compassionate care they provided during his illness.
