Obituary

James A. "Jim" O'Neil, a 26 year resident of Lyman, Maine and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, July 20, 2020 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine. He was 74 years of age.

Jim was born in Boston on February 6, 1946, a son of the late Mary "Billie" (Degnan) Chiappa and her husband Peter Chiappa. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Brighton High School. Jim worked as a painter throughout his life working for Tweed & Sons Painting Contractors on the south shore and most recently working for Painting by Northeast in North Berwick, Maine. He enjoyed boating, attending car shows, playing horseshoes, bocce, and the card game scat.

Jim is the beloved husband of 52 years to Linda A. (Ferullo) O'Neil. He is the devoted father of Kelley A. O'Neil and her companion Brian Johnson and the late Sheila M. Carter and her surviving husband Carlos, and James A. O'Neil Jr. He is the loving Pop to Carlos "CJ" Carter and his fiancé Kaylie St. Peter, Colin J. O'Neil, and his great-granddaughter Peyton Gallaher. He is the beloved brother of Don Fessendon, and the late Mary Lou Cerolia, and Richard "Dick" Chiappa. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jim's Funeral on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. His visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home. (FACIAL COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED INSIDE OF FUNERAL HOME AND CHURCH).
