Obituary

CENTERVILLE – Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of a great man - a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Donald R. Lacharite, 73, of Cape Cod and a former resident of South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, July 16, 2020. Donald was born in Holyoke on October 284, 1946, the beloved son of the late Roger and Alberta (Tanguay) Lacharite. He was raised in Chicopee and was a graduate of Chicopee Comprehensive High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a communications specialist in Europe and attained the rank of Specialist Fifth Class. Donald was employed for 26 years at Milton Bradley Hasbro Games in East Longmeadow. In his retirement, he enjoyed being a school bus driver, a substitute teacher at South Hadley High School and a Property Manager of Pine Grove Condominiums for years. An avid boater, he served as the Commodore of the Springfield Yacht & Canoe Club and was an enthusiastic golfer. He volunteered his time as a coach for the Chicopee AJAC’s and the Easthampton boys and girls soccer, baseball and softball teams. He served as an American Red Cross disaster volunteer and was a mentor for the “Be the Match” Multiple Myeloma Foundation. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend of 51 years, Constance M. “Connie” (Potvin) Lacharite; his children, Marc and Michelle Lacharite; his grandchildren, Marina, Morgan and Marc Jacob Lacharite and Kiara Cotto-Lacharite; his bonus granddaughter, Caroline Durr; his sisters, Denise Audette and her husband, Rick, of South Hadley and Mona Zygmont and her husband, Jim, of Arizona; his sisters-in-law, Diane and Donna Potvin; and his many nephews, nieces and extended family members. His legacy and love will continue to be carried in the hearts of those who loved him. He was constantly upbeat and gregarious, enjoying good-hearted teasing of those around. His laugh, smile and warm hugs will be remembered forever.His family will receive friends on Sunday, July 26, 2020 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806). The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located at 20 Lafay ette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (please note that face masks are required, social distancing must be observed and funeral home capacity is limited to 40% per state guidelines). His funeral and burial will be private.
