She lived in Peekskill all her life, briefly attended the Oakside and Assumption Schools, and was homeschooled until she attended the Keon Center from 1989 until she retired from working there in 2014. Katie participated in the NorWest programs and was a member of the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill. Katie was a voracious knitter and a prize-winning bowler. She loved to swim and to travel with her Sister. Most of all, she loved her family dearly. Katie loved parties—especially her own Birthday parties.

She is survived by her niece, Kathleen (Stinson) Buchanan, of Princeton, MA (Rev. David) and her Great Nephew, David Buchanan of West Boylston, MA (Laura), and Great Niece, Mary Pellegrino (Greg) of Warrington, PA, She is also survived by 11 Nieces and Nephews, 16 Great Nieces and Nephews, and 10 Great-Great Nieces and Nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John E. Burns, a brother in law, S. Joseph Stinson, and two sisters in law, Dorothy Burns and Charlee Burns.
“Katie taught us all that people with disabilities have a place in the community, we learned that they love their family deeply, and that you will never know true love until you are loved by someone with a disability.”
