Jean A. (Hansen) Ferante, 82, died at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton on Friday, February 24 after a period of failing health. She was the wife of Roxy T. Ferante for 58 years. Born in Norwood, she was a graduate of Norwood High School and Cambridge City Hospital Nursing School. Mrs. Ferante was a resident of Stoughton since 1957. Mrs. Ferante was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. She was trained as a registered nurse at Cambridge City Hospital and worked at the Boston VA Hospital for several years and Mt. Auburn Hospital for a short time before retiring in the early 1950’s. After her retirement Mrs. Ferante was a homemaker at home with her family. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a foster mother to Steven Baker. She also tutored for the Illiteracy Program at the Stoughton Public Library.
In addition to her husband Roxy, Mrs. Ferante is survived by her daughters, Susan Durden of Brockton and Cheryle Ferante of Glastonbury, CT as well as her grandchildren, Nicole and Michael Durden, Nicholas Kalogeros and Buck McGrane. She was the sister of Robert Hansen of Norwood and the late Dorothy Hansen, Ralph Hansen, Roy Hansen, Vivian Spear and Marion Manning. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, February 27 at 11:30 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-5 PM.
