WORCESTER___Josephine A. (Akstens) Roach, 88, formerly of 5 Doane St., went to be with her Savior on Friday February 24. Her husband, William T. Roach died in 1972.
She leaves three daughters, Patricia A. Bello of Auburn; Virginia M. Hanlon and her husband Michael D. of Worcester; and Jerri-Marie Ostergard and her husband, Louis E. Jr. of Worcester; a sister, Lillian Kaczynski of Worcester; three grandchildren, Gina Marie Bello, Shawn F. Bello and his wife Jaclyn C. and Michael J. Hanlon and his wife Laine; a great-grandchild, Carlo J. Bello and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by four brothers, William, John, Connie and Julius. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Michael and Fruzina (Kantaravich) Akstens and lived here for most of her life.
Mrs. Roach was a licensed practical nurse for St. Vincent Hospital and worked there 25 years before retiring in 1980. She graduated from the nursing school at Holden District Hospital. Josephine attended Commerce High School and graduated from high school in Rhode Island.
Mrs. Roach was a member of Our Lady of Vilna Church and was an active volunteer for St. Vincent Hospital and the Green Island Neighborhood Center. She also attended the Age Center of Worcester, Senior Day Program.
The funeral will be held on Monday February 27 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Vilna Church, 151 Sterling St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday February 26 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Social Day Program, Age Center of Worcester, 799 West Boylston St., Worcester, Ma 01606.
