Obituary

CHICOPEE – Curtis L. “Curt” Gendreau, 86, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving daughters. He was born in Springfield on June 21, 1934, a beloved son of the late Leo J. and Pearl I. (Supernaw) Gendreau. He was raised in Ludlow where he attended Ludlow High School and graduated from the former Monson Academy in Wilbraham. He furthered his education and attended Bridgewater State College. He later lived in Westfield and West Springfield and returned to Ludlow before moving to Chicopee. Curt served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class. He was employed for many years as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service at the Bulk Mail Center in Springfield. He was a member of the Galaxy Community Council at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee. During his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, playing cards, going to the beach and traveling. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Louise M. (Richard) Gendreau who passed away on May 12, 2017. He leaves his two devoted daughters, Cherylee D. Hagge and her husband, Brian, of Southport, NC and Jennifer E. Stanley and her husband, Jeffrey, of Enfield, CT; his four cherished grandchildren, Ryan Royer, Amanda Evans and her husband, Tyler, Jackson Stanley and Gabriella Gendreau; his dear mother-in-law, Dolores (Bouley) Richard of Ware; and his many dear cousins and numerous friends. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 16, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806). The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Avenue, Indian Orchard, MA 01151. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
