Obituary

CHICOPEE – Sophie Anna (Brzoska) Karwowski, 70, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin, peacefully became an angel with the Lord on Friday, July 3, 2020. She was born on June 17, 1950, in Racibory, Poland to the late Piotr and Anna (Kozikowska) Brzoska. Her childhood years were spent in Poland before relocating to South Hadley in 1963, later moving to the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1986. Sophie was employed for many years in the grocery industry in South Hadley and Chicopee. She later retired from the Big Y Supermarket in Chicopee where she was well-known for the excellent service she provided and everlasting friendships acquired throughout her career. Sophie was an active communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke for many treasured years and currently at Saint Anne Parish in Chicopee. She was loved and adored by all whom she encountered throughout her life. Married in Poland on May 27, 1974, Sophie leaves behind her beloved husband and soulmate of 46 years, Gustaw Karwowski; her loving son and daughter-in-law John and Jamie M. Karwowski of Kissimmee, FL; her cherished grandchildren Alexis Anna Karwowski, Brian Keith Elwick Jr. and Alexis Kathleen Elwick; her dear sister-in-laws, Barbara, Maria, and Milka of Poland; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members residing in both the United States and Poland. Sophie is predeceased by her brother Stefan S. Brzoska and his wife Helena (Luczynski) Brzoska. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a public viewing on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 from 8:00 until 9:30 a.m. at St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. A Funeral Mass will follow the viewing at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Anne Parish, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will immediately follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, 152 Pittroff Avenue, South Hadley, MA 01075. Social distancing and face masks are required at the funeral home and church with a 40% capacity at each location.
