Obituary

Dolores A. (Rocha) Rose, 89, of Dartmouth passed away Sunday July 5, 2020 after a brief illness. She was the wife of Richard G. Rose.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John A. and Charlotte A. (Cabral) Rocha, she lived in Sao Miguel, Azores, during her youth after her father moved the family there when her mother died shortly after her birth. She returned to the U.S. with her beloved sister Addie at age 11. She lived in Dartmouth for most of her life.

Mrs. Rose was formerly employed as a home health aide. During the 90’s, she had a gift basket business, Dee’s Gift Baskets, and won first-place honors for design in 1998 at a national convention.

Dolores will be remembered for her boundless energy, her thoughtfulness that knew no bounds, for her selfless and deep love of family and friends, her extraordinary cooking, for her elaborate and beautiful wedding cakes and the hundreds of birthday cakes she made through the years. She had many hobbies, was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed knitting as well. There was no task too big for her. She took great pleasure in taking care of others.

She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband Richard; two children, Susan R. Francoeur and her husband Michael of Somerset and Michael R. Rose and his wife Maribeth of Florence, SC; her sister, Maria deMedeiros of Sao Miguel, Azores; six grandchildren, Matthew Francoeur, Daniel Francoeur, Katherine Rose, Christopher Rose, Andrew Rose, and Evan Rose; two great-grandchildren, Vivienne and Edward Bleakley V; nephews Armand Viera and Barry Perry, niece Marilyn Vitale, many grand-nephews and nieces and beloved cousins.

She was the sister of the late Edmund Rocha, Adelaide Perry, and Olive Santos.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday July 11, 2020 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9-10:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. She was passionate about education and so in lieu of flowers, two scholarships will be created in her name. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
