Obituary

Mary Louise “Mary Lou” (Ferreira) Rose of Truro, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on July, 2nd, after a brief illness. She was the wife of Austin “Ozzie” L. Rose Jr. who died in 2009.

Mary graduated from Provincetown High School in 1951, being dubbed the classmate with the “best Smile” and class “songstress”.

Mary’s life was devoted to her family! She raised nine children and was always willing to be there for her children and grandchildren. She volunteered as a Den Mother with her boys, and Girl Scout Leader with her daughters. She also helped out with Special Olympics as a swimming instructor, and delivered Meals on Wheels. Mary held various jobs over the years to help support the family. She worked with her brother-in-law at the Whitman House, and also managed the front desk at the Sandcastle Resort. Her best and most accomplished job of her life was being home and raising her nine children- “I always wanted to have a lot of children!”. Mary and her beloved husband Ozzie bought Roseville Cottages from his mother in the mid-sixties, where they made lifelong friendships over the years. She loved calling on her sister Ruthie and her dear friend Ann Kelley to help with Saturday cleaning.

Her favorite and best meal was lobster (any style). It was a meal that you never would ask for a bite. She loved everyone, but you knew not to mess with her lobster. She was an avid sports fan. Mary loved watching golf, especially Tiger Woods. She also loved watching the New England Patriots, and hollering at the television, with the rest of her family, when the team was messing up or when things were going our way.

She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3152, holding many titles from President to Secretary locally and at the district level, basically whatever was needed and asked of her. She volunteered as a Den Mother with her boys, and Girl Scout Leader with her daughters. She also helped out with Special Olympics as a swimming instructor, and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a devoted member and communicant at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown.

She is survived by her sister, Elaine Gaspa and husband, George, of Falmouth, her sisters-in- law, Nancy Ferreira of Orleans, and Alice Ferreira of Chatham. She leaves behind her children, Austin and wife Dawnne, Leo and wife Tracey, Mary H Rose, Timothy and Linda, Glen and wife Jen, and Andrew all of Truro. Also Diana and Kevin Duarte of Masphee, April and Bill Booth of Connecticut, and Janice and Raymond Roderick of Truro. Grandchildren, Richard and wife, Amy, Eve and husband, Kyle, Holly and husband, Chris, Leo Jr, Simone, Joseph, Heidi, Nicole, Rebecca, Kellie, Kelsey, Shannon, Kevin, Riley, Austin, Sadie, Thomas, Devin and Carmen also survive her. Great-grandchildren, Theodore, Calvin, James, Jayden, and Aiden, Lauren, Jacob, AJ, Dominic, Zachary, Matthew, Rylee, Steven, and Theo, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends also survive her.

In addition to her husband of 57 years, Austin “Ozzie” L Rose Jr. , she was predeceased by her parents, Isadore and Philomena (Cordeiro) Ferreira, by her baby girl, Anna Noreen (who was a twin), and died at birth in 1965, and siblings, James (Jimmy), Wilfred (Billy), Ruth, and Edwin, and her daughter-in-law Edith May (Costa) Rose. Grandchildren, Anna Noelle and Abby Rose Booth, and Brian Dumont also predeceased her.
