Robert Kenneth Banks, age 81, of 129 Hewitt Road, Mystic, died Wednesday evening at Mystic Manor.
Born in Noank on July 30, 1924, he was the son of the late Alfred and Maude E. (Bogue) Banks. Raised in Noank, he attended local schools and later served in the US Army from 1943-1946.
In 1949, he began his career at Electric Boat where he was employed for over 33 years, retiring as a 1st Class Shipfitter in December, 1982. In his spare time, he was an accomplished self-taught painter and enjoyed gardening.
He married Beverly (Norman) Banks on August 23, 1947. They enjoyed almost 59 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pamela B. Wahl of Charlestown, RI; a brother, George Banks of Mystic, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At his request, services are private. Burial will be in Noank Valley Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
