New Bedford – Edward Rego, age 89, of New Bedford passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Angela Batisteli and the loving companion of Shirley LePlante.
Born in New Bedford, MA he was the beloved son of the late Jose M. and Georgina (Barboza) Rego. Edward had been a veteran who served in the United States Navy. After leaving the navy, he had been a “1st Class” painter at Fairhaven Shipyard for many years.
Edward had also been a talented musician who could pick up any instrument at any time and play for hours. He was a wonderful man and will be missed dearly.
Edward is survived by his loving companion, Shirley LePlante; son, Michael Rego; godchild and nephew, Jaime Rego, nephew Robert Rego, niece, Judith Rego; as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several siblings.
In accordance with Edward’s wishes, he was cremated.
