Obituary

Auburn- Leon R. Soucy, 78, of Auburn, and Sarasota, FL, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Sarasota, after a brief illness.
Born in Manchester, NH, he was the son of the late William L. and Alice (Roberge) Soucy. He lived with his family for several years in New Britain, CT, and subsequently moved to Worcester where he lived until joining the U.S. Navy. A proud Veteran of World War II, Leon was a crewman aboard the USS Helena.
After his discharge from the Navy, he married the love of his life and his “Princess” Marion M. (Perry) Soucy, who died on November 11, 1997. Leon was a hammer operator at Wyman-Gordon Co. in Worcester for more than 40 years before retiring. Upon his retirement, he split his time between his Auburn and Sarasota homes and in recent years resided full time in Sarasota where he enjoyed the warm weather and the ocean.
Leon is survived by his son, Leon W. Soucy of Springfield, MA; three daughters, Pamela DeProspo and her husband Peter of Worcester, Tami DiTullio and her husband John of Sutton, and Kim DePiro and her husband Paul of Auburn. He was predeceased by a daughter Wendy Soucy, who died in a tragic automobile accident on August 2, 1970. Mr. Soucy also leaves five grandchildren, Peter and Wendy DeProspo, Jayde and Jesse DiTullio, and Kendra DePiro, who were the lights of his life. One of eight children, Leon leaves three sisters, Joan Heims and her husband Alan of Ft. Brag, CA, Florianne Shevchuk of Worcester, and Monica Sobolewski of East Providence, RI; three brothers, Gerald Soucy and his wife Dorise of Auburn, William Soucy of Oxford, and Robert Soucy and his wife Camille of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by another sister, Dolores Lessard of Auburn.
Mr. Soucy was an active member of the Auburn Lodge of Elks, the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the United Steelworkers of America Local 2285, and the White Eagle Club.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., Worcester, with a graveside service at 10 a.m. in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in the funeral home.
