Artur Alves, 80, of New Bedford passed away Monday June 22, 2020 at Tufts Medical Center of complications from COVID-19. He was the husband of the late Regina (Soares) Alves.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Fidelio and Carolina (Tavares Correia) Alves, he lived in New Bedford for many years.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Alves was formerly employed as a painter until his retirement.
He was a member of the Bisca Tournament Club.
He is survived by his siblings, Antonio Correia and Helena Dias, both of New Bedford, Eugenia Pires of Connecticut, and Adelina doRosario of Pawtucket, RI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Maria and John Correia.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday June 29, 2020 at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday June 28th from 1-4PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. The attendance limit at church will be 50 persons and capacity will also be limited at the funeral home.
