Joan M. (Chisholm) Burns, 85, of Whitman, passed away on Sunday June 21st surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was the devoted and loving wife to the late William H. Burns, Jr.
She was born in Brockton, daughter of the late John D. and Geraldine C. (Tucker) Chisholm Malmberg and a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1953.
Joan enjoyed raising her children, John, Kathleen and Patricia in Whitman since 1958, also, she and her husband Bill loved to dance, spending their summers in Mashpee and appreciated time with family, laughing.
Through out her life, she held many jobs, but among her favorites were working at the telephone company, working side by side with her mother at Durands and Brigham’s and with her extended family at Luddy’s Express.
She is survived by, her son John W. Burns and his wife Deborah of Raynham, her daughter Kathleen Cerra and her husband John of Hawaii. She was also the mother of the late Patricia Anderson-Volk. She was also blessed with her grandchildren, Ian Anderson, Michelle Nobles, Deanna , Rose and John Burns, Jr., her great grandchildren, Brent Pope, Mariah Nobles, Sean Hanney, Kendra and Elianna Burns.
Her visitation will be held on Monday June 29th from 5:00-8:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will be private in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman.
