Obituary

Mary Lou Gibbs of Sagamore Beach passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2020, after battling metastatic breast/colon cancer for several years. She was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts to Chester and Lillian Bromley. She was 68 years old.

Though she had been fighting this disease for years, few people knew how sick she really was. Mom was tough and fought till the end. Anyone who met her was surprised by her diagnosis. Through her, we know what toughness and determination really look like. Her joy for life and strong spirit kept her pushing through.

Mom had many passions which always included her family and friends. She loved going to the beach, painting, quilting, crafting, playing the guitar and singing, playing cards, traveling, shopping and horses. She was most passionate about cooking; it is where she drew her most joy. She especially adored her six grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Paul L. Gibbs of Sagamore Beach, her parents Chet and Lillian also of Sagamore Beach, and her brother Douglas Bromley. She is survived by her son Shane Sykes (Tracy), her daughter Tara Sykes Hill, her sister’s Cheryl Karp (Bob) and Karen Rood (Greg), her grandchildren Casey, Mickey, Eric, Kameron, Kennedy and Erica and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

A celebration of life will be planned for a future date.

In lieu of flowers, mom would love for you to spend time doing something you love, with someone special. Do not delay; tomorrow is not promised.

In memory of mom, a tax-deductible donation can be made to the American Legion Post 290 Foundation, PO Box 3151, Stafford VA 22555 (Memo: Venture Crew Program).
