Obituary

The families of Nancy D. Harrington and Maureen A. Hines are, at last, able to announce that a Memorial Service has been scheduled for both of them. Nancy and Maureen had passed away in December and May of 2020, respectively, but, were denied appropriate funerals due to restrictions imposed by the recently relaxed COVID-19 protocols. We intrepidly invite all of their numerous friends, colleagues and admirers to join us at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 9th, 2021 at the Immaculate Conception Church, located at 15 Hawthorne Boulevard in Salem, MA.

Directly following the service, we will repair to a Celebration of Life (or, more precisely, lives) at the nearby (18 Washington Square W) Hawthorne Hotel where food, drink and reminiscences will be provided from noon till three P.M.

Maureen A. Hines, 80, of Salem, died unexpectedly at her home in East Dennis, MA, on Saturday, May 23, 2020.Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Caron) Hines. She graduated from Salem State University in 1960 and was an elementary school teacher in the Salem school system for many years.
Maureen was known and loved by many. She was the favorite aunt and was often seen as a maternal figure for many of her nieces and nephews. She is remembered most for her humor, sassiness, and her way with words. She would often have phrases or statements that added humor and wit to her conversations. She was also known for sending cards to everyone she knew that recognized birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Her interests included spending time on the beaches at Cape Cod, with her friends, and her family.
She is survived by her lifelong friend, Nancy Harrington of Salem; her niece, Lisa (Sindoni) Mango and her husband, Ed Mango; other nieces, Kristine Robinson, Leslie (Hines) Torphy, Jennifer Lepore, and Cristina Capra; her Nephews, William Capra, John Sindoni, Brian Hines, Michael Robinson, Christopher Lepore, and Nicholas Capra. One of the statements Maureen made was how big the welcome committee was getting. In addition to her parents, the deceased welcoming her home include her brother, Bernard Hines, her sisters Elaine (Hines) Sindoni, and Roberta (Hines) Robinson; and her niece, Laurie (Sindoni) Capra.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church-Mary Queen of the Apostles Parish in Salem at a later date when we can gather safely. Assisting the family with arrangements is Paul Levesque, of Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette Street, Salem, MA 01970. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen's memory to The Scholarship Fund at Salem State University, Class of 1960; donations by check may be sent to Advancement Services, Salem State University, 352 Lafayette Street, Salem, MA 01970-9929; or electronically at, "participate.salemstate.edu."
