CHRISTOPHER T. 'CAPTAIN MURPH' MURPHY Veteran

Obituary

Christopher Thomas Murphy, “Captain Murph”, passed away suddenly on June 3, 2020 in Wakefield, MA. The third child of Daniel (deceased) and Barbara (Cameron) Murphy of Newton, MA, he was born December 19th, 1959 in Boston.

After high school, Chris enlisted in the United States Navy on February 1, 1979. Serving his country was a patriotic act of which he was so proud and thought all able citizens should do in some capacity. Chris served his time in the Navy aboard the USS Forrestal, the first supercarrier of its kind in the world. It was during his tour of duty that he developed a fondness of the ocean, a connection that would go on to define a major part of who Chris was in his everyday life.

After serving his country, he became an entrepreneur and started his own company installing commercial and residential carpeting. After a decade of successfully managing and growing his company, he longed to return to the sea and followed the calling. He was a 25-year employee of Boston Harbor Cruises, a company he helped grow from a small, family-run boat tour company into one of the largest in the country. He started out as a deck hand while earning his degree in maritime science from Maine Maritime Academy and went on to become a captain and a manager. Chris helped employ hundreds of people as hiring/operations manager.

It was at BHC where he met the love of his life, Kara (Cedrone) to whom he would have been married 20 years on August 27th. They settled in Wakefield, a town where they felt truly at home and a community they loved raising their three children, Hannah, Jack, and Patrick. Chris will be remembered for so many things, among them his loyalty and judge of character, but most of all his love for Kara, Hannah, Jack, and Patrick.

His passions were the ocean, the beach, Boston sports, baking, but most importantly, his love of family. Sunday family dinners were one of his favorite things in the world. He enjoyed sitting in his beach chair at Hampton Beach, their annual winter trips to Florida and caring for his beloved mother.

Chris also leaves behind brothers Daniel & wife, Lee of Dallas, TX, Joseph & wife, Maureen of Newton, MA, his sister, Susan of Hopkinton, MA as well as Kara’s parents, Paul and Patricia Cedrone of Medford MA and her eight siblings, in-laws and many nieces and nephews. “Uncle Murph” will be missed dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Murphy Family Scholarship Fund.
