Obituary

Danvers: Eugene “Bucky” Guy, 85 , husband of the late Stephanie T. “Stella” (Szary) Guy, died Sunday morning , Feb. 19th, 2006 at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA.
Born In Salem, he was one of eighteen children born to the late Isadore and Merilda (Pelletier ) Guy. He attended St. Joseph Parochial School and then Salem High School, where he played football and baseball. After high school, he was invited to a major league baseball tryout with the St. Louis Cardinals.
He entered the service in June of 1942 and upon completion of Jump School at Fort Benning, Georgia, he served with the 101st Airborne. He was assigned to the European Theater of Operations and took part in engagements in the Rhineland, Central Europe, Normandy and the Ardennes at Bastongne, in the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded in action three times, receiving the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
In September of 1945, he was honorably discharged from the service and returned to Salem where he met and married the love of his life, his wife Stella. They shared 56 years of marriage . He was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and assigned to the bridge division for which he worked 35 years. He and his family moved to Danvers in 1954 where he still resided. He was a communicant of the former St. Joseph Church of Peabody and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #76 in Salem.
Always an avid sports enthusiast, he continued to play baseball and later softball for many local area teams: among them; Les Canadians, Winslow Chips, and most notably Mike O’Keefe’s Leather Workers. He also participated for many years in the Salem Chamber of Commerce bowling league at candlepin lanes in Salem.
Upon his retirement, from the Commonwealth in 1982, he and his wife Stella enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the New England states. Another favorite past time was to attend the games of the sports teams for which his granddaughters participated.
He is survived by a son, Steven G. Guy and his wife Cheryl of Salem, 2 granddaughters: Jennifer M. Fabiano and her husband Joe of Salem, Jessica L. Guy and her fiancé Thomas A. St. Pierre, Jr. of Salem, 2 brothers: Paul P. Guy of Sebago, ME, and Richard J. Guy of Salem, also a sister: Gertrude Driscoll of Danvers.
He was predeceased by 7 brothers: George A. Bill, Roland J., Eugene, Leo, Gerard and Robert Guy, and also seven sisters: Lucy Fraser, Lillian G. Tessier, Rose D. Blais, Loretta Guy, Florence Cefalo, Cecile M. Beck and Irene Thomson.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Thursday, February 23, 2006, at 7:45 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., Salem [Rt. 114 / 1-A] followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 9 am. Visiting hours: Wednesday 4 to 8 pm, Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
