LOWELL - Warren A. Rantz, age 77, died Friday morning, July 12, at his home in South Lowell,after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Helen E. (Ames) Rantz, with whom he hadcelebrated a 53 wedding anniversary this past May 28th.
He was born in Medford, July 27, 1924, a son of the late Harry and Louise Rantz. He was raisedin Medford, and lived in Melrose before moving to Lowell 50 years ago.
During WWII, he served in the Marine Corps, Pacific War Theater. He was a participant of theBattle of Iwo Jima, and witnessed the raising of the flag, the subject of the world famousmonument in Arlington National Cemetery.
In his earlier career, he worked at the Waldimer Pontiac dealership in Lowell as a servicemanager. He retired from Frito Lay in Billerica.
He enjoyed golf, boating, skiing and fishing.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter0in-law, Leonard and Jo Anne (Silva)Rantz of Tewksbury Don Rantz of East Brunswick, NJ, two grandchildren, Mrs. Randy (Kristen)Springer of Lowell and Matthew Rantz of Tewksbury, and one great grandson, Jeffrey Springer.He was also brother of the late Harry Rantz.
Followingcremation a private interment was be held at Puritan Lawn cemetery, Peabody.
