Mr. Richard H. Barry, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Sheila (French) Barry, passed away on Monday afternoon, May 25, 2020, following a brief illness. He was 96 years old.
Born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, on May 15, 1924, he was the beloved son of the late James and Rose (Dagley) Barry. Richard graduated from Medford Vocational HS, studied mechanical drawing and was a machinist. He was drafted into the Army soon after graduation and was part of the 36th infantry division âTâ Patch out of Texas. His rank was private first class demolition specialist. He was wounded in France. He received Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star, European African Middle Eastern Thearter Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead, and the Purple Heart. He was a Master Mason for 70 years. Richard worked as a Dental Technician for many years. He was a longtime member and Property Deacon of the Community Baptist Church in Medford. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, carving and building stonewalls. He enjoyed spending time and building a log cabin with his family in Maine. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Richard is survived by his loving sons and daughter-in-law; Bruce D. Barry of South Lancaster and Keith R. and his wife Karin M. Barry of Amesbury, grandchildren; Katie, Kerrie, Kloe, Dana and Jay, great-grandchildren; Evan and Sedona and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late George L. Barry, Elva Reichenbacher, Elizabeth Barry and Rupert Barry.
Funeral Services will be privately held, at Puritan Lawn ceremony, Saturday at 1:00 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home of Medford.
