Obituary

Henry A. “Bo” Miller, Jr. died quietly at home May 20, 2020. Bo was born in Ashburn, Georgia, the son of Henry Albert Miller, Sr. and Josephine Evans Miller. He graduated from Ashburn High School in the class of 1950 and attended Emory Junior College at Valdosta and Emory University, graduating in 1954. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Bo Miller first served in the Air Force after graduation from college and then returned to teach at Tifton High School, continuing to serve in the reserves. In 1961, Bo was called back to military service including active duty in Vietnam. While stationed in El Paso, Texas, Bo met Bobbye Mae Humphris, a high school English teacher, and they were married in 1965 in Marfa, Texas.

Bo began a new career in 1971 when he got out of the Air Force, after 10 years, at the rank of captain. He moved his young family to Tifton to begin work at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. For 24 years, he was dean of men, assistant dean of student affairs, and director of student activities. Bo greatly valued his time at ABAC, stating that he most enjoyed his colleagues and working with the students. Whether he was disciplining them or working with them in SGA, generations of ABAC students valued his fairness, good humor, and dedication. He retired in 1995.

Bo was a dedicated Christian and member of First United Methodist Church in Tifton since 1971 and enjoyed working out at the church activity center. He valued his friendships with members of the Beacon Sunday School Class.

Bo loved golf, fishing at the family farm, travelling around the world, the beach, boiled peanuts, and telling stories. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a good friend. In addition to his parents and beloved younger brother, Joe Miller, who predeceased him, Bo is survived by his wife Bobbye, to whom he was married for nearly 55 years; daughters Mae Miller Claxton (husband David) and Melody Miller Wilkes (husband Greg); and grandsons Stephen, Seth, and Sean Wilkes and Brannan Claxton. The family plans a memorial service at a later date.
