Obituary

John J. Gambino, age 88, a lifelong resident of Winchester, passed away on May 19, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Newcomb) Gambino.

Born in Winchester, John was the son of the late Michele and Maria (Vecchia) Gambino. He was raised and educated in Winchester and was a graduate of Winchester High School. After High School, he enlisted in the Army National Guard. He was employed as a presser for many years at Russo’s Cleaners in Winchester. He was also the band leader for “Johnnie and the Blue Chips” and entertained many over the years with his singing and drumming.

Known as a “man of all trades”, he could build anything and cook everything. He also loved to ride his motorcycle and take trips to Revere Beach, but his favorite pastime was cooking and enjoying Sunday dinners with his family.

In addition to his wife, Evelyn, Mr. Gambino is survived by his daughters: Deborah McManus and her husband Steve of Woburn, Elise Gambino-Hamilton and her husband Peter of Winchester, Denise Carter of Lowell, and the late Donna Krea and her late husband Michael of Woburn. Dear brother of Michael Gambino of Woburn and the late James Gambino of Winchester, the late Mildred Riddle and her husband Ray of Watertown, and the late Anna Cirone and her husband Daniel of Woburn. Devoted grandfather of Garry Matterese of Woburn, Michael Hamilton of Winchester, Dennis Carter of San Francisco, CA, Tanya Funari and her husband Jim of Bangor, ME. Great-grandfather of Isabella, Sophia and Giuliana Funari, and “Papa” to Louie, and cherished uncle of Mary Ellen Delger, Michelle Gambino, Brenda Cirone and Ray Riddle. He will be dearly missed by his family and all of his loved ones.

In light of the recent precautions with Covid-19, Funeral Services will be private.
