Obituary

Susan J. (Calnan) Brogan, 59, of Mendon, MA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 18, 2020. Born in Milford, MA on February 23, 1961, she was the daughter of Bella M. (Thibeault) Calnan of Mendon and the late Charles “Ray” Calnan.

In addition to her mother, she leaves behind her beloved husband of 36 years, Michael A. Brogan, their children Michael T. Brogan, Molly (Brogan) Lane and husband Michael, Rebecca Brogan and companion Michael Carotenuto, and Kayden Brogan. She is also survived by her siblings, Judy Rice of Franklin and her late husband John, Robert Calnan of Northbridge and companion Dyanna Rondeau, Michael Calnan of Webster and his wife Marchele, and Mary Hackenson of Whitinsville and her husband Scott, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends - all of whom she loved so dearly.

She grew up in Medway and Milford and graduated from Milford High School in 1979. She moved to Mendon with her family in 2000 and quickly became loved by so many in town. Known to many as “Auntie Sue” or “Mama Sue,” her home was always the place where everyone went to eat, sleep, play, and pass the time as she always had an open door and open arms. Sue was most happy in life with a house full of people.

Her love and enormous heart led her to a longtime career of selflessly taking care of others. She worked in the Mendon-Upton Regional School District, as a foster parent for the Department of Children and Families for 26 years and, more recently, the Kennedy Donovan Center, where she cared for adults with disabilities.

Sue loved camping, traveling, cooking, listening to music (particularly Jethro Tull) and motorcycle rides with her husband, but truly nothing meant more to her than her family and friends as she was the rock and go-to person for so many people.

Due to COVID-19, funeral services will be held privately with family. All are welcome to attend the graveside service on Friday, May 22nd at 11:00 am at Quaker Cemetery, 7 George Street Mendon, MA. Please be mindful of others and practice social distancing. Her family will be planning a public funeral Mass and Celebration of Her Life to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Road, Casco, ME 04015. https://www.campsunshine.org/giving/donate-today
