Obituary

Barbara Malcolm Hendley, 82, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, May 18, 2020, at her residence.

Private graveside services will be held.

Mrs. Hendley was born March 20, 1938, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Wade Allen & Myrtice Marjorie Rouse Malcolm. She was a 1956 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. She was a secretary for First State Bank right after graduating and later helped her husband run Floyd’s Hamburger Shack and she kept the books for her husband’s business Georgia Welders Supply. Mrs. Hendley retired as the lunchroom manager for Ben Hill Elementary School. She was a member of the Jr. Women’s club and the Elks Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and preparing holiday meals and family gatherings. She enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Jeopardy. Mrs. Hendley loved listening to Gospel music, especially the Gaithers. She taught a girls Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald and was currently a member of Arbor Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Pam Hunter & Mark of Fitzgerald; a son, Scott Hendley of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Melissa Dark & David, Jonathon Hunter & Cara, Brian Hendley and Kayla Hendley; four great-grandchildren: Ford Dark, Henry Hunter, Nash Dark and Vala Grace Hunter; two brothers: David & Shirley Malcolm of Fitzgerald and Sammy & JoAnn Malcolm of Loganville; in-laws: Gene & Ruth Hendley, Loretta & Skeeter Humphreys and JoAnn Hendley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Varnell Hendley and a daughter-in-law, Norma Hendley.
