Obituary

CHICOPEE – Napoleon H. “Nap” Rougeau, 91, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, May 15, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home in Chicopee on May 16, 1928, a beloved son of the late Napoleon and Aurore (Neveu) Rougeau. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Saint Joan of Arc School and was a lifelong resident of Aldenville. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps with the 56th Maintenance and Supply Group and attained the rank of Private First Class. He was employed as a Building Foreman at the Monsanto Chemical Company in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church and a member of the Aldenville American Legion Post 337, both in Chicopee and also was a member of the Pioneer Valley Chordsmen. He spent countless hours volunteering at the Senior Center in Chicopee and received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the City of Chicopee and a Proclamation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for his service in 2010. He also volunteered as a cook at Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen and Pantry in Chicopee. During his leisure time, he was often seen working around his beloved home, most especially tending to his beautiful flower gardens in his yard. He also enjoyed traveling and wintered in Florida over the past eight years. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and doting over his two beloved daughters, his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita J. (Fontaine) Rougeau. They were married on September 3, 1949 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 56 years of happiness together. He leaves his loving companion of 12 years, Christine Harrison of Chicopee; his two devoted daughters, Denise S. Lavoie and her husband, Rick, of Holyoke and Debra J. Pflanz and her husband, Michael, of Chicopee; his seven cherished grandchildren, Seanna Kindness and her husband, Christopher, John Ferriter, Joshua Jendrysik and his partner, Heather Mayou, Katherine “Katie” Haubner and her husband, Shawn, Dustin Lavoie and his wife, Katie, Miles Pflanz and Noelle Pflanz; his five cherished great- grandchildren who affectionately called him “Big Pepere”, Kasidy Kindness, Christopher Kindness, Owen Haubner, Anna Haubner and Josalyn Jendrysik; his cherished great-great-granddaughter who was the apple of his eye, MaKenna Griffin; his four dear brothers-in-law, Thomas DuBois of Englewood, FL, twins Leonard Fontaine of Chicopee and Edward Fontaine of Pensacola, FL and Clement “Charlie” Dugre of Chicopee; his two dear sisters-in-law, Pauline Bourque and Donna Fontaine, both of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended members of the Rougeau and Fontaine families and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his two dear sisters, Theresa Robillard and Jeanne DuBois. His Funeral will be private and his Burial will be private at Sainte Rose Cemetery in Chicopee.
