Obituary

Edward Thomas Mulkern, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Franklin on May 16, 2020 after a long illness.

Ed was born on August 8, 1936 in Dorchester to parents Martin and Delia (Connolly) Mulkern. Growing up in Dorchester, Ed proudly became a “triple-eagle,” graduating from Boston College High School, Boston College and the Boston College Graduate School. On June 2, 1961, he married Ann Theresa Skahan. Together, they raised their three children in Dartmouth, MA; Albany, NY; and Norfolk, MA. Ed worked as a Human Resource Executive until his retirement. He spent his retirement years thoroughly enjoying his 11 grandchildren.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Martin and Delia, his brothers John Mulkern and Martin Mulkern, and sister Mary Crosby. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Ann T. (Skahan) Mulkern, and his three daughters MaryAnn Rufo and her husband Paul Rufo of West Roxbury, Diane Walsh and her husband James Walsh of Franklin, and Julie Jones and her husband Greg Jones of South Boston. Ed is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren of the Rufo family: Katherine, Michael, Christopher, Sarah, Claire, and Miguel and the Walsh family: John, James, Meaghan, Julia, and Erin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a graveside prayer service, followed by burial at Saint Mary’s Cemetery will be held privately. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Campaign for Catholic Schools to assist with scholarships for students at St. John Paul II Catholic Academy in Dorchester as follows: Campaign for Catholic Schools, Edward T. Mulkern Scholarship Fund, 66 Brooks Dr., Braintree, MA 02184.

Our family would like to thank the staff and nurses from Optimal Home Health Care, Old Colony Hospice, and Home Helpers for providing such excellent care.
