Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Mary Lynn (Poole) Girard, 79, of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bill, in East Longmeadow, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Winchendon on June 23, 1940, a beloved daughter of the late Ernest A. Poole, Sr. who was Called Home on December 20, 1971 and Arline C. (Brown) Poole who was Called Home on January 14, 2015. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Cathedral High School in Springfield in 1957 and later received her Certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Roger L. Putnam Vocational School of Nursing in 1976. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for Gentiva Pediatrics on Roosevelt Avenue in Springfield and retired in 2003 and previously was a Unit Secretary for over 20 years in the Pediatric Department at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Most of all, she was very proud to have worked at Healthdyne Healthcare as an LPN Outpatient Clinician where she cared for babies at risk with SIDS. During her leisure time, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy every evening while snacking on her favorite, dark chocolate Kit Kats. Above all, she enjoyed spending time at gatherings with her beloved family and many friends. She was a longtime Confraternity of Christian Doctrine instructor at the former Our Lady of Hope Church, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and the former Saint Mary Church, now Mary, Mother of Hope Church where she was a communicant, all in Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard G. Girard who was Called Home on July 16, 1992. She leaves her two loving children, Joseph R. Girard and his partner, Brian, of Salem, NH and Brenda C. McMahon and her husband, William, of East Longmeadow; her loving son-in-law, Michael W. Caouette of Chicopee; her five cherished grandchildren, Robert Girard, Andrew Girard, Alexandria McMahon, Madison McMahon, and Tamara Colon and her husband, Jose; her six cherished great-grandchildren; her two dear brothers, Ernest A. Poole, Jr. of Springfield and David N. Poole of Winchester, NH; her dear sister, Eva A. Bellucci and her husband, David, of Springfield; her wonderful caregiver, Alice; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended members of the Girard and Poole families; and numerous friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her beloved son, Daniel J. Girard who was Called Home on March 17, 1983; her beloved daughter, MaryBeth Caouette who was Called Home on June 23, 2019; her dear brother, Raymond L. Poole who was Called Home on November 17, 2006; her dear sister-in-law, Nancy Poole who was Called Home on March 14, 2010; and her dear nephew, David J. Poole who was Called Home on June 24, 2006. Her family will receive friends on Monday, June 22, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. (Please limit your time with her family, face masks are required to enter the funeral home and funeral home capacity is limited to 40% per Massachusetts guidelines). Friends are invited to meet on her birthday, Tuesday, June 23, 2020 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104 (Please meet directly at the church). Her burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
