Obituary

Mary E. (Geswell) Pierce, a 47 year resident of Braintree and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at The Harbor House Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Hingham. She was 99 years of age.

Mary was born in Boston on April 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Walter Geswell and Mary (O'Brien) Geswell. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Mary was a homemaker most of her adult life who dedicated herself to caring for her husband and her 2 sons. She enjoyed knitting, watching the Boston Bruins and her beloved Boston Red Sox in her spare time and also enjoyed watching the Matignon High School hockey games during the time when her son Marty coached the team. Mary's family was paramount in her life and as her family grew, she took great pride of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the personal accomplishments each one of them have achieved.

Mary is the beloved wife of the late retired Boston Firefighter Martin E. "Marty" Pierce. She is the devoted mother of retired Boston Fire Department Commissioner Martin E. "Marty" Pierce Jr. and his wife Ellen and retired Boston Police Department Detective John J. "Jack" Pierce and his late wife Jacqueline. She is the loving Nana to Jennifer Pierce, Massport Firefighter/EMT Martin E. "Marty" Pierce III and his wife Nicole, Elizabeth Wosny and her husband Boston Police Sergeant Mat, Lisa Mangone and her husband Joseph, Michelle Pierce and her great-grandchildren Maria, Marty IV, Nolan, Joseph, John, Ella, Sarah, Caroline and Mat. She is the beloved sister of the late Walter Geswell, John Geswell, Ann Twohig and Rita Carlson. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, MARY'S FUNERAL SERVICES AND BURIAL AT BLUE HILLS CEMETERY IN BRAINTREE WILL BE PRIVATE.

A celebration of Mary's life will be announced at a later date.
