Robert Thomas Norton
Retired Mechanical Engineer

TEWKSBURY: Robert Thomas Norton, age 80, a resident of Tewksbury for 48 years, passed away at home on Monday, May 11, 2020.

He was the beloved husband of Michele (Lozet) Norton, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Born in Cambridge on July 5, 1939, he was the son of the late Thomas R. Norton and the late Martha (Jennings) Norton. An only child, “Bobby” was raised in Cambridge and attended Rindge Tech High School. He was a very talented football player scoring touchdowns as a running back and a punter.

In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War Era. He was stationed in Paris and served as a Sargent in the White House Communications office for the Kennedy administration, where he met his wife.

They were married on September 4, 1965 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Bob attended Northeastern University, where he received his BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He was employed at AGFA in Wilmington for many years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Porter International, a Leggett & Platt Company in Rowley, Massachusetts where he earned Patent Award for his product design. He retired in 2005.

Bob enjoyed a very dedicated career as a mechanical draftsman. He also liked drawing Disney cartoons, listening to Classical & Irish music and a visiting a good pub. He was a staunch Democrat and cherished listening to Patriots games on the radio, watching Old Westerns, WWII & Clint Eastwood films and Classic movies. In his younger days, Bob was an avid diver and was a huge Jacque Cousteau fan. He recently took up drawing again and enjoyed playing Sudoku while living at the Wingate Assisted Living Residence in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen M. Norton of Lowell, Catherine A. Peirce and her husband John of Tewksbury, and Lisa M. Marden and her husband Scott of Amesbury. He was the grandfather of Tom and Erica Peirce, Alex Norton, the late Troy Marden, Danielle Norton, Nicholas Marden, Colette Norton, and Ellie Marden.


Due to current public health circumstances, all services for Robert are private. He will be interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury.
