Irving V. “Sonny” York, age 81, of Norton, formerly of Sharon, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.

Born in Boston, MA on May 12, 1939, he was a loving son of the late Roland and Mabel (Dick) York.

Sonny grew up and was educated in Sharon. During the time of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country for two years as a member of the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on June 11, 1964 with the rank of SP4.

Mr. York had made his home in Norton for the past forty years. Prior to retiring, he had worked in the maintenance department at Wingate at Norton and was previously employed for many years at the Sharon Department of Public Works.

Sonny loved spending as much time outdoors as possible. He enjoyed fishing, annual hunting trips, with friends, in Maine, gardening and watching the birds that frequented his yard.

He is survived by his siblings: Truna Halverson of Sanford, Maine, Dorothy York of Holliston and the late Barbara York and Stanley York, Sr. He was the longtime companion and best friend of Marcia Godfrey of Norton and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be private and visiting hours have been omitted.
