Obituary

CHICOPEE – Kenneth A. “Ken” Gevry, 69, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, May 11, 2020. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by all the wonderful memories that he loved and cherished. He was born in Worcester on June 24, 1950, a beloved son of the late Marcel R. and Emily (Lapa) Gevry. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and had lived in Chicopee most of his life. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard and attained the rank of Sergeant. He had worked as a master craftsman and cabinet maker and owned and operated Ken’s Kitchen and Bath in Chicopee. Previously, he had worked at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, Connecticut and was proud to have worked on the first space shuttle. He was a member of the Ludlow Lodge of Elks and a life member of the AMVETS Post 74 in the Three Rivers section of Palmer. During his leisure time, he enjoyed studying firearms and collecting curios and relics, boating at Brunelle’s Marina in South Hadley, Bass River Marina on the Cape, Block Island, the Oxbow Marina in Northampton and the Holyoke Canoe Club, hunting and being outdoors. He also enjoyed cultivating seeds for his large garden each summer and thoroughly enjoyed giving vegetables to his family and his many friends. Ken was a “party guy” and was always ready to entertain his family and many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary E. (Morton) Gevry. He leaves his loving sister and confidant, Marcia A. Pimpare of Chicopee; his loving step-son, Ollie F. “Bud” Schmith, of Hatfield; his two cherished nieces, Tanya L. Gay and her husband, Albert, of Chicopee and Tracey L. Kavanagh and her husband, Byron, of Studio City, CA; his two beloved canine companions, his dogs Whitey and Billy; and his many extended family members and friends. Due to the current circumstances, his funeral services will be private and his burial will be private at Sainte Rose Cemetery in Chicopee. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield Unit, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
