Obituary

Standish - True W. "Sonny" Day Jr., 84, of Standish died unexpectedly at his home on May 6, 2020 due to a cardiac event. He was born in Westbrook on February 1, 1936, a son of True W. Day Sr. and Lilla (Black) Harmon and was educated in Limington schools.

Sonny worked in the woods as a young man, then proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Bertha L. Newcomb on February 15, 1964.

He worked at Locust Farm Dairy in Limington for several years, then at the Lachance Brickyard in South Windham for a few years, then several more years for the Cianbro Construction Co. He worked for S.D. Warren Co., now known as Sappi, in Westbrook for 20 years until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the American Legion in Standish. He loved hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and spending time at his camp in West Athens, Maine. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a granddaughter, Andrea Brown, his stepfather, Howard Harmon, his stepmother, Helen Day, and 5 brothers: Howard "Butch" Harmon Jr., Reginald Harmon, Richard Day, Robert Day and Roger Day. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bertha Day of Standish. Daughter, Doreen Webber and husband Phillip of Steep Falls. Son Dennis Day and wife Kristen of Standish. 2 sisters, Bonnie Gomes of Limington and Martha Hohorst of South Carolina. 4 grandchildren: Ashley Barr, Kayla Brown, Devon Day and Tabitha Day. 4 great grandchildren: Joslin Gagne, Mackenzie Roberts, Mason Bean and Peyton Barr. Also many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date when gatherings are appropriate. Arrangements are by the Chad Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.mainefuneral.com.
