Obituary

Betty Virginia Hart, 95 of Anderson passed away peacefully on May 5, 2020.
A life-long Hoosier, Betty Virginia Smith was born in Kokomo, Indiana on July 26, 1924 to Michiah and Dollie Smith. She married the love of her life, Harvey Kay Hart in 1943. They made a life in Anderson raising 4 children, Janet K. Linville (Barry), Saint Cloud, FL; Dennis A. Hart (Carrie) Cape Coral, FL; Brian K. Hart (Debbie), Ft. Wayne IN and Thomas K. Hart (Terri), Anderson, IN.
Betty’s life revolved around her family. From room mother to PTA, Sunday school, church socials and keeping an immaculate home, Betty set the standard.
Betty excelled in motherhood, and later in being the grandmother to 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Her home in Anderson was the centerpiece of family life, countless reunions, celebrations, parties, and bridge or Euchre games for 64 years. The quintessential home maker, Betty was famous for baking pies, chocolate cake, family meals and ensuring that every event was hosted to her standards.
Betty insisted on proper decorum, teaching and shaping generations. She led her family by example in faith, work ethic and the values of integrity, compassion and caring.
Betty and “Kay” enjoyed their retirement in warmer southern climates spending vacations in Texas and Florida before choosing Florida for their winter residence. Though she loved the winters spent in Florida after Kay’s death, Betty always missed her Indiana neighbors and the First United Methodist Church of Anderson. “Home” was always here. No one ever had better neighbors!
Betty was greeted in heaven by a host of family members. The heavenly Bridge Club has a new pair and anyone looking for a game of marbles should be ready. We will miss her loving words of encouragement, her competitive spirit, and her unending faith.
The family hosted a private service on May 9th. A celebration of Betty’s amazing life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Anderson.
