Gerald F. "Jerry" Nye, a longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. He was 69 years of age.
Jerry was born in Boston on April 11, 1951, a son of the late Fernard Nye and Florence (Butler) Nye. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Jerry worked for Time Warner Cable for over 20 years, retiring as a Warehouse Supervisor. He was a proud member of the Majestic Knights Drum and Bugle Corps of Charlestown. He was also passionate about teaching drum and bugle corps, where he touched the lives of his many students throughout the years. Jerry was a man who embraced everyone, always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He was a fan of the underdog, and viewed everyone as a friend.
Jerry is the beloved husband of 46 years to Robin (Martini) Nye. He is the devoted father of Gina Casamento and her husband John of Charlestown, and Paul Nye and his wife Alyssa Rubin of Austin, TX. He is the loving Grampy of Maxine Nye. He was predeceased by his 8 older siblings, and his father and mother-in-law who he regarded as his second parents. He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He was the best friend of Paul Gaffney, and Godfather of Jackie Gaffney.
A celebration of Jerry's life will take place at a later date.
