Gladys E. Tufts, 83, of Hampstead, NH, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in her home. Gladys was born in Lowell, MA on July 4, 1922, a daughter of the late Percy H. and Agnes M. (Elger) Colburn. She was a resident of Hampstead since 1994, formerly living in Lowell, MA for many years. Gladys retired in 1993 from the NH Dept. of Transportation Turnpike Division and more recently was employed part-time for Filenes in Salem, NH. Gladys was a charter member of the Halcyon Club in Derry, NH, a member of the XYZ Club in Plaistow, NH and the Derry Garden Club. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star in Lowell, MA. Gladys had been a volunteer at Parkland Medical Center in Derry. Gladys loved to travel, and had traveled to Bermuda 55 times over the past 30 years, where she made numerous friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Dianne G. (Eastwood) Payne of Derry, Kathleen (Eastwood) Quirk of Manchester, NH, one son, Deane Eastwood of Salem, NH, fourteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, two brothers, George V. Colburn of Tewksbury, MA, Kenneth D. Colburn of Tyngsboro, MA, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, F. Russell Eastwood in 2001.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at 2:00pm in the East Hampstead Union Church, RT 121A, East Hampstead, NH, with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, 1 Verney Dr., Greenfield, NH 03047 or to the Derry - Salem Home Health & Hospice Services, 1E Commons Dr., Unit 31, Londonderry, NH 03053. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements.
