Obituary

Catherine A. Joly, 82, passed away peacefully on April 27 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre in Cumberland, surrounded by the love and spirit of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert A. Joly, to whom she was married for 60 years.

Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Elizabeth (Crozier) Coleman. She remained a lifelong resident of the town.

Mrs. Joly was a clerk for the Town of Cumberland for several decades until her retirement in 2008. She was previously employed by Comtec Digitronics and Blackstone Valley Claim Service. She was a communicant of The Historic St. Joseph’s Parish, and later St. John Vianney of Cumberland. Her life was guided by her abiding faith that sustained her until her final days. She took great comfort in the strong Catholic presence at Mount St. Rita with daily Mass and rosary.

Cathy enjoyed socializing, dining out, and dancing with her husband, Bob, and was happiest spending time with him, her children, and her grandchildren. Her spirit shined when she was with those she loved most. She could always be found shopping for bargains, and spent countless summer days visiting family in Narragansett.

A true original, laughter and fun were always present whenever Cathy was around. With her big heart and distinctive voice, her fun loving nature and zany personality have provided us with so many treasured stories and memories that will help fill the void in our hearts and keep her with us forever. She smiled brightly, laughed heartily, and loved fiercely.

She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Montminy and her husband Brian of East Greenwich, and Roberta Duffy of Cumberland. She also leaves her treasured grandchildren Brian Montminy, Samuel Montminy, Hannah Duffy, and Sarah Duffy. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother John Stewart Coleman and sisters Rosemary Jones, Margaret Coletta and Elizabeth "Bettie" Hogan.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, her funeral and burial will be private. A Memorial/Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Mount St. Rita for being Cathy’s “family” when we could not be with her, especially during this pandemic. Please honor Cathy’s memory by performing a random act of kindness.
